John B. Whinrey

John began his legal career as an associate in one of Evansville's larger law firms. However, after 15 years, John became frustrated with practicing law in a large firm. Realizing he needed a change, in 1982 he decided to practice law his own way by opening his own law office. John's "way" has been to place himself in the position of his clients. He strives for understandable documents, good communication with his clients, high ethics, and reasonable billing. As our firm's senior law partner, John makes certain these basic concepts are considered in every decision of the firm.

John believes very deeply in giving back to the community. He has been involved in numerous community and church activities since his arrival in Evansville in 1967. His activities have included Boys Club (President and volunteer), Rotary Club (President), Hope of Evansville, Mesker Park Zoo Foundation, Public Education Foundation, Rotary Foundation of Evansville (chair of administrative committee for eleven years), Vanderburgh County Historical Society (President), and Signature Learning Center. He is also a past president of the Evansville Bar Association.  John is also the President of the newly formed Mt. Auburn Neighborhood Association and Signature Charter School as well as a past President of the Evansville Bar Association.

John and his wife, Mona, are "westsiders." They have a daughter, Anne. John and Mona attend East Side Christian Church, where John has served as its president and has led an adult Sunday school class for more than 20 years. Mona has taught piano at the University of Evansville, and also has a nursing degree.

Originally from Muncie, Indiana, John attended undergraduate school at College of Wooster (1963) and received his law degree from the University of Michigan (1966).

John practices primarily in the areas of business and corporate law and estate planning and administration. He is a stickler for detail and preparation. John says his father taught him at an early age that "if you do a good job of gathering the facts, the decisions will come easily."

John enjoys reading and traveling. John also plays golf and tennis.
